While live entertainment theatres have long been a popular Myrtle Beach pastime, you've never seen a show like the one at Ghosts and Legends Theatre at Barefoot Landing. This show's "stars" don't sing, dance or do comedy routines. Instead, you'll find them slamming doors, firing cannons, slipping through keyholes, or warning of impending storms while revealing their colorful, and often tragic, stories. What you see and hear will be remembered long after your vacation is over. Designed specifically to reflect the history and traditions of South Carolina's Lowcountry, this unique attraction showcases tales of the area's most popular ghosts along with local folklore. Through the use of dazzling special effects, an original musical score and storytelling in the best southern tradition, the folks at Ghosts and Legends Theatre bring the Grand Strand's colorful past to life. (It's actually educational...but don't tell the kids!) Seated in the authentically decorated old-fashioned southern parlor, you'll hear about beautiful Alice of the Hermitage, surely the coast's most well-known ghost. Though you may be familiar with her story, you've never seen it quite this way. There's also the brigand Blackbeard, a notorious pirate who sailed the coast of the Carolinas. Learn, too, about the bad ol' boo hag and the Gray Man who roams the coast when hurricanes threaten. This unforgettable theatrical experience is the creation of Terry and Oliver Holler, theatre veterans who commissioned top designers, special effects engineers and creative talents to bring their dream to fruition. The special effects alone are worth the price of admission! Technical director Mark Spivey, who has worked for Disney, Universal and others, has designed illusions that will have you believing that a fierce hurricane really IS howling just outside the door. In this intimate setting which seats just 55 people per performance, that's no small feat. The show schedule and ticket prices at Ghosts and Legends are family-friendly. Shows are offered every 30 minutes throughout the day and evening, and with ticket prices under $10, it'll be the biggest and most enjoyable bargain of your trip.
